The Search is On for the "Most Inspirational Mom"

This article, entitled "The Search is On for the 'Most Inspirational Mom,'" is presented by Boys & Girls Clubs of America & University of Phoenix.

The nationwide search is set to begin for the country's "Most Inspirational Mom." It's an effort aimed at finding three exceptional mothers to highlight how everyday moms are doing extraordinary things while inspiring their families as role models, especially when it comes to education and leadership. Mothers have a powerful impact on children, encouraging them to achieve their goals and beyond. Moms inspire their children to live up to their potential, teaching them that they can be anyone or do anything they want to do.

That's why Boys & Girls Clubs of America has joined with University of Phoenix to execute the "Most Inspirational Mom" scholarship search, which will award three extraordinary moms with full scholarships to pursue a bachelor's or master's degree. This scholarship program was designed to promote a culture of family achievement and raise awareness about how the University and Boys & Girls Clubs are creating great futures for parents and youth. Fifteen finalists will be chosen and notified in February, and the three ultimately selected as "Most Inspirational Mom," will be announced the week leading into Mother's Day.

Joining in the endeavor is Lucille O'Neal, mother of retired NBA All-star Shaquille O'Neal, who is also an alumna of both Boys & Girls Clubs and University of Phoenix. As the author of a motivational book titled Walk Like You Have Somewhere to Go, O'Neal shares her exceptional journey that included life as an unwed teen mother, struggles with alcohol and her determination to get a college degree in her 40s. O'Neal believes she's gained wisdom from her different experiences and uses them to guide and encourage other women down a path to success.

In the video below, Lucille O'Neal outlines the eligibility requirements and entry process for the "Most Inspirational Mom" search.
