Activity Books, Popcorn, and a Movie

Becky had her last Mock Trial practice tonight which meant I had the kids. Before picking them up I grabbed two coloring books from Target. I gave them to them when I loaded them into the car and they quietly paged through them as we drove back to Monticello. Walking into the house I broke the bad news, before we could color they had to take a bath. They were in, scrubbed, and out of the tub in no time.

I made some popcorn, popped in Tangled, and laid a blanket on the floor. ”We’re having a picnic daddy! Yay!” the kids exclaimed. We sat in the living room coloring, eating popcorn, and watching a movie. Mason’s book also had various activities in it including mazes, word codes, and matching games. ”Daddy, will you help me with the tricky riddles?” he asked. He was amazed as we solved them and told them I was really good at his Spideman book.

The $6.00 spent on the two activity books was the best money I’ve spent in a long time, and we all had a great night.

Mike lives in North Florida with his wife, two children, two dogs and a cat missing a piece of her ear named Sadie Mae.   He is a 30-something guy trying to balance family, work, gardening, travel and his love of food.  When the kids are asleep and the house is quiet he writes two blogs,  Black Coffee & Bourbon chronicles the daily circus that is his life, and Sweet Tea & Bourbon which documents his foodie adventures.
