Back to School Apps

A report from the National Retail Federation shows parents are spending more this year to fill their kids' backpacks than last year, by about $85.

Smartphones and tablets have become the tool of choice for consumers in the hunt for the best prices. Here are a few apps that can help you save some money:

Weekly Ads & Coupons: This app will find the stores nearest you based on your GPS location. You can then tap on the name of each store to bring up the local ad.

ShopSavvy: With this app, you can scan a bar code on an item and it will show you the best price for that item both locally and online.

Another great tool to use when shopping is a tax rate calculator app. Many of these apps will let you set the tax rate in your area so you can quickly factor in how much a purchase will be after tax, as well as include calculations for discounts on sale items.
