Helping With Homework

For most kids, right now is the final home stretch before school lets out for the summer. But that doesn’t mean it’s too late to change the way your household deals with homework. You can make the countdown even easier by getting organized and finish off this school year with a bang.

Make a Homework Box
Your homework box should have plenty of pencils, pens and crayons, as well as other supplies such as scissors, tape and glue. This box will come in handy over summer break on those days when it’s either too rainy or too hot to spend time outside.

Dedicate a Space
Whether it’s the kitchen counter, the dining room table or the coffee table in the living room, your child’s homework space should be consistent and comfortable. Turn off the television and occupy the other kids in the household with a quiet activity. Be available when they need help understanding the assignment.

Don’t Be Afraid
How many years has it been since you had to learn some of this stuff? If you find yourself more puzzled than your child about their homework assignment, don’t be afraid to tell them you don’t know. Reach out to social media for help. Chances are, there’s a YouTube video that can explain or a Facebook friend who happens to know exactly how to help.
