Recently my kids attended the Vacation Bible School put on at our babysitter’s church called "PandaMania"! Sure, the kids LOVED the theme, but Jon and I loved the “kidmania” that we experienced on our morning drive to the church.
Here's what we overheard driving our kids and Olivia's friend Grace to VBS every morning. You gotta love the little conversations and how quickly the subjects change. Here are some snippets:
Jacob: It’s supposed to by 97 today.
Olivia: Oh, great. Thank you mommy and daddy for the love. I’m wearing a tank top.
Olivia: (describing how she wants this item that straps around the body of her American Girl...)
Grace: Ya, it’s a doll carrier.
Olivia: I know, I just wanted to explain it.
Jacob: There’s Memorial Stadium. I want to go to another Husker game.
Olivia: There’s a hotel.
Jacob: That’s just a building. There’s a hotel.
Olivia: That’s what I was talking about.
Jacob: Amigo's is so good.
When I go to Runza, I always get a regular Runza and an ice cream cone.
Olivia: There’s a lot of traffic. It’s sure taking a long time.
We drive by a jail…
Kids: They’re trapped in there. I bet they only get hot water.
Taryn: How many kids are at Bible School?
Olivia: Probably about 40.
Jacob: Our parents are around 40. Grace, how old is your mom?
Taryn: I think your dad is younger.
Olivia: Boys don’t have to be older than the girl to be married.
Olivia: Grace, is your dad following us? (They see a white pickup.)
Taryn: What’s your favorite thing about bible school?
Jacob: Chatter…he’s looking for an inspector guy using a zip line.
Olivia: Amanda the red panda (Bible Buddy).
Taryn: How about the kid who dressed up like a panda in the skit.
Jacob: That’s Panda Pete.
Taryn: Is he funny?
Olivia: Kind of, but not really.
Olivia: Mama, can I be nine or ten when I get my ears pierced?
Jacob: Boys can get them, too.
Olivia: They just want to look cool.
Olivia: Grace, we’re going to watch you in the "Wizard of Oz" at your daycare. What are you going to be wearing?
Grace: This. (The sundress she is already wearing for VBS.)
Olivia: Is that really your outfit? You’re a munchkin. You have to bend your knees.
Olivia: Mommy, you need to get a phone that has “angry birds” on it. (We still have flip phones!)
Jacob: I’m gonna ask Santa for a ping pong table.
Olivia: That’s a big present. He’ll have to put it in the kitchen.
Olivia: Mama, growing up did you have the most letters in your name in your family? (Taryn has 5 letters.)
Taryn: No, mom did. (My mom’s name is Flavian.)
Jacob: Told ya!
Olivia: Why do you always say “told ya"?
Hmm...told ya! These conversations are all over the map! Is it just me, or is my six year old going on 13??? You just have to chuckle at what words emerge from the backseat.
Enjoy the ride! Happy Parenting!
