About Us

For nearly seven decades, thousands of vulnerable children and youth have found safe refuge and a new beginning at CEDARS. One of Nebraska's most trusted child-service organizations, CEDARS makes sure that children feel safe and secure. At the same time, we're giving parents, foster families, and partnering agencies the support they need to care effectively for children. CEDARS responds to both immediate and long-term needs in serving abused, neglected and homeless children and families in need of support. One of the ways Cedars supports children is by partnering with foster families to provide quality care.

I am the Service Area Administrator that oversees the foster care program. I have worked at CEDARS for seven years and can’t imagine being anywhere else. The Foster Care team is incredibly supportive to each other and I love every single day I come to work. Being able to give people forever families or helping them to return home is my passion.

I am married to my elementary school sweetheart, Joseph Young, and we have one son, Kylan, and a daughter, Finnley. I also have a Doberman puppy and a Pug. I enjoy reading, finding new ideas on Pinterest, attending my kids’ sporting events and watching football. Our favorite team is the Green Bay Packers!

CEDARS FAQ

Q: How old do I have to be?
A:
21 years old

Q: Can I be single?
A:
Yes

Q: Is my home large enough?
A:
The State of Nebraska requires 35 square feet of room in any home per foster child. Foster children and biological children may share a bedroom as long as it is age and gender appropriate, but must be provided appropriate privacy.

Q: Will I be trained?
A:
CEDARS Foster parents are required to undergo 30 hours of training prior to being licensed and also complete ongoing training once licensed. Families are supported 24 hours, 7 days a week by staff who are easily reached via phone, night or day. CEDARS has been providing foster care in the community for over 15 years, and the staff bring a combined 125+ years of experience to the table to advocate for children and serve alongside their foster families. This means that they are a professional team, completely equipped to train and support new and experienced foster parents.

Q: Can I work outside the home?
A:
Yes, and in fact, proof of a source of income must be supplied.
