Q: What is the time line for a kitchen remodeling project?
A: How long will I be without my kitchen is a very big concern for any of us that eat! And I think the answer most people want is not how long will my project take, beginning to end, but how long will I be inconvenienced. Our goal as a team at Waunakee Remodeling is to make any home improvement project come together as seamlessly as possible. What that means is that we won’t start ripping up your kitchen until we are ready to put it right back together again! Actual time frame will vary depending largely on what products you have chosen to use, but it's generally a 2-3 week period that you may be without a completely usable kitchen.
Q: How does the design process work?
A: The design process works however you want it to work. Some of our clients come to us with a design in mind already and some just know that they want a new kitchen. We can accommodate either situation. One of my favorite things to do is to sit down with a client, and get a feel for how they live and what they like and need for their home. This path looks different for each of our homeowner’s, and I like the design process to develop organically based on you.
Q: How will I choose cabinets?
A: The cabinets in any kitchen tend to set a feel for the rest of the room. They have the biggest impact, solely because they take up quite a bit of your space. When I look at cabinets from a design standpoint, a couple of things can narrow the field of options. First, the style of the rest of the home. Your kitchen can and should make a statement in your home. However, it does need to compliment the rest of the home as well, completing the flow and blending harmoniously. Second, they need to suit your needs and personal taste. Is more storage a necessity? If your cabinets are beautiful, but you still can’t function in your kitchen, we could have done better.
Q: How will I choose a counter top?
A: Again, I think the answer lies in form and function. Today, we have so many beautiful options when it comes to counter tops! Laminates have come a long way aesthetically, and still fit most if not all budgets. They are low maintenance and cost effective. Solid surface tops continue to offer a lot of convenience, and some design options that others don’t. The beauty of natural stone is hard to beat. While there will be some maintenance, the durability here is great. The best part of selecting counter top materials is that there is not bad answer. In most cases, I think it comes down to what appeals to you, visually, and if it fits your budget.
Q: What's important when choosing a contractor?
A: Choosing a contractor ranks right up there with choosing a dentist, in my opinion. The goal here is to find someone you want diagnosing and rebuilding part of what is most likely one of your biggest investments, personally and financially. Your home is the place that you raise your children, invite your friends and family into, and the place that you take refuge in. With that said, it really comes down to trust. Who sees my project the same way that I do? Who will make sure it looks and feels like me when we are done? Who will take care of my property while they are working? Who will make sure this gets finished when promised? Who will be there to take care of any problems that may come along in the future? At Waunakee Remodeling, we have been taking care of local homeowners for 35 years.
