Friends of the Library

Established in 1991, the Friends of the Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library have demonstrated their support of the library in numerous ways which have benefited the residents of our county. Through fundraising activities, advocacy efforts, and volunteerism, the Friends have played a vital role in the success experienced by the library.

The Friends' primary fundraiser each year is the National Library Week book sale. This sale, coupled with the sales of canvas book bags and pencils, helps to generate much needed revenue for Friends support of special library activities and purchases.

Checking Out Materials

• A valid library card must be presented in order to check out library materials.
• Books, CD’s and Cassettes are checked out for a two (2) week period.
• Books that are on a request list are checked out for seven (7) days. (No Renewals)
• 20 book checkout limit per household.
• Including renewals.
• CD’s and Cassettes have a limit of five (5)
• Titles per household.
• Videos and DVD’s are checked out for five (5) days with a limit of two (2) per household.
• Must be 18 years of age to check out any Video or DVD.
• GED and ASVAB study guides require a $15.00 refundable cash deposit in order to be checked out.
• Hooked on Phonics requires a $25.00 refundable cash deposit.

Late Charges

• .25 per day per Book, CD, Cassette or Audio Book.
• $1.00 per day per Video and DVD.
• .50 rewind charge if videos are not rewound.
• $1.00 per Video or DVD if placed in the library book drop.
• (Videos and DVD’s may be placed in remote book drops only)
• All items are due by library closing time of date due.
