This article, entitled "Avoid the Hazards of Pool Chemicals this Summer," comes from Katie Kuenkel, MomsEveryday correspondent from Western Wisconsin.
According to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pool chemicals are to blame for nearly 5,000 injuries each year, almost half are among children and teens.
Pool chemicals help protect swimmers from germs, but when used improperly, they can be very hazardous.
Poisoning was the most common injury, typically from inhaling pool chemical fumes. Others were injured when entering the pool right after chemicals were added.
The CDC recommends reading and following directions on product labels and wear safety equipment including goggles and masks. Keep young children away from pool chemicals and equipment by locking them up when not in use.
