Deborah Drendall, an experienced school leader and a seasoned Montessorian, has been appointed Head of School at The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes effective July 1, 2011. Deborah brings to the school a wealth of knowledge as well as a rich understanding of the Michiana community. She is a certified Montessori teacher, has years of experience in the classroom, and is a proven school leader. Deborah is also an accomplished community leader, most recently working with Memorial Hospital and Health System.

The appointment of Deborah Drendall follows a thorough and wide-ranging search that began last July and attracted qualified candidates from the Midwest and beyond. The committee was thrilled to find the ideal candidate right here in the community. The search committee recognized in Deborah a person with the expertise, the vision, and the dedication to lead the school, to maintain its excellence, and to take the school forward in its mission.

Deborah began her Montessori career by serving as a lead teacher at Little Flower Montessori School (now The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes) and also at Children’s House Montessori. She expanded her experience in Montessori education by serving as Head of School at Countryside Montessori School. She returned to The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes as the Director of Education and Executive Academic Director for The Montessori Teacher Academy. Deborah went on to assume the position of the Head of School at The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes, leading the school through a period of program and building expansion. She was also instrumental in creating the Montessori preschool classroom at the South Bend Center for the Homeless as a gift to the community to honor The Montessori Academy’s 25th anniversary.

Deborah Drendall is honored to be returning to The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes. She recognizes the excellent quality of the school and feels privileged to become the guardian and leader of this outstanding Montessori school.
