As any parent will tell you, kids can be quite the comedians. Not a day goes by in our household that our little guy doesn't provide some sort of comic relief. Since his toddler brain is like a sponge, Brody is constantly learning new phrases, sayings, and expressions. Just like any learning curve, there's plenty of room for things to get a little lost in translation. That being said, I love seeing and hearing how my imaginative kiddo interprets new things. We've dubbed his honest, spontaneous, and often times hilarious thoughts as "Brody-isms."
One recent Brody-ism happened this week after a successful trip to the "big boy potty." I was getting Brody re-dressed when...oops...a puff of air slipped out. His comical comment, "Mom, my butt just sneezed!" I couldn't help but crack up at his interpretation! (I hope I'm not coming across as the gross mommy blogger as I write this...I debated sharing the innocent exchange.) Anyway, it was hilarious to hear Brody's take on the whole thing.
Another Brody-ism came as he looked over his Halloween candy for a special post-dinner treat. "Mom, I want the bowling balls," he said. After looking over the sweets, I laughed as I saw that he was talking about malted milk balls. It's the little things like that, that make me love watching my little guy grow and learn. I can count on some repeat Brody-isms on a daily basis. Instead of calling out mom or dad when he wakes up in the morning, Brody will routinely yell "Kris, Ted..I'm awake" to make sure we know he's ready to rock and roll for the day. It never fails to put a smile on my face.
I make it a point to write down my favorite Brody-isms. I hope that one day he'll enjoy looking back at his funny thoughts and silly sayings. What are/were some of your child's entertaining expressions or cute interpretations? I'd love to read about them if you're willing to share. It's so fun to see Brody's personality shine through as he learns. I hope to teach my little guy that it's OK to laugh at ourselves and to keep on smiling because it really is contagious!
