About Us

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America – incorporated on February 8, 1910, and charted by Congress in 1916 – is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.

 

Scouting At A Glance...

Tiger Cub is a year-round family-and home-centered program that encourages the ethical decision-making skills for first grade (or 7-year-old) boys. These boys participate in the program with their adult partners. The program emphasizes shared leadership, learning about the community and family understanding.

Cub Scouts is a year-round family-and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for boys in the second through fifth grade (or who are 8, 9 and 10 years old). Activities emphasize character development, citizenship training and personal fitness.

Webelos Scouts is a year-round family-and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for fourth and fifth grade (or 10-year-old) boys.

Boy Scouting is a year-round program for boys 11 through 17 designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster. (Boys also may become Boy Scouts if they have earned the Cub Scouting Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old and have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10 years old.) 

Venturing is a year-round program for young men and women who are 14 (or 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade) through 21 years of age to provide positive experiences through exciting and meaningful youth-run activities that help them pursue their special interest, grow by teaching others, and develop leadership skills.

About the Allohak Council

Territory: The Allohak Council is comprised of 17 counties in Southeastern Ohio and West Virginia. Ohio counties are Athens and Washington. West Virginia counties include Barbour, Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Jackson, Lewis, Pleasants, Randolph ,Ritchie, Roane, Tucker, Upshur, Wirt and Wood.

 

Districts: The council is divided into six districts consisting of the following:
Blennerhassett – Wood County (except Williamstown), Ritchie and Belpre, Ohio.
Highland – Counties of Barbour, Randolph, Tucker and Upshur.
Hock Hocking – Athens County, Ohio.
Little Kanawha – Counties of Calhoun, Jackson, Roane and Wirt.
Stonewall Jackson – Counties of Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison and Lewis.
Washington – Washington County (except Belpre), Pleasants County and Williamstown.

 

Service Areas: Currently the council is divided into service areas, which are comprised of the following:
Service Area #1: Blennerhassett and Little Kanawha Districts
Service Area #2: Hock Hocking and Washington Districts
Service Area #3: Highland and Stonewall Jackson Districts

 

Properties: The council maintain the following properties:

Camp Kootage
: Approximately 600 acres in Wirt County and is the council summer camping facility. The camp is used year round and hosts a variety of other Scouting Events.

Camp Mahonegon: Approximately 500 acres in Upshur County and is a former council camp that is used for winter camping, training, day camps, non scouting specialty camps and weekend activities.

Lowman: Approximately 50 acres in Athens County that is used for no council or district activities and only occasionally used for weekend unit outings.

Service Center: Approximately 2 acres in Parkersburg that houses the council office. The service center is a 2 level 7500 square foot structure.
