Q: What are the benefits of breastfeeding for the baby?
A: There are many benefits to breastfeeding your baby, among them: enhanced brain development, reduced risks of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death or “Crib Death”), less stomach and bowel illnesses, less respiratory ailments such like colds and viruses, and fewer ear infections. Children who were breastfed are also less likely to have diabetes, certain childhood cancers and obesity.
Q: What are the benefits of breastfeeding for the mother?
A: Bonding with baby is one benefit most moms enjoy the most about breastfeeding. However, mothers who breastfeed can also benefit from an easier post-partum recovery period, like returning to their pre-pregnancy weight sooner, delayed menses, and they may also see less postpartum anxiety and depression. Breastfeeding also provides women with some protection against osteoporosis, breast, ovarian and uterine cancers, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Q: Does the baby’s father receive any benefits from breastfeeding?
A: Yes! A breastfeeding mom and baby are more likely to be healthier. This can ease stress in the home, reduce missed days from work and save the family time and money.
