United Way Alliance is a charitable organization whose funding delivers immediate impact to agencies providing disaster and emergency relief, assistance to the elderly, assistance to individuals with disabilities, and promotes the well-being of children. It is our goal to unite communities, contributors and human services agencies to strengthen the family unit and improve the quality of life in the greater Mid-Ohio Valley area.
Just what does United Way do? United Way is a non-profit organization that raises funds to support LOCAL health and human service agencies. United Way addresses our area’s most pressing needs by collaborating and building partnerships with other community leaders.
Why should I give? Why not give directly to the agencies? United Way provides financial support to programs where help is most needed. Your donations fund programs for the young, old and disabled. Giving through the United Way reduces costly and time-consuming fundraising efforts, especially for small agencies that have a limited fundraising ability.
Does my contribution stay in this area? Absolutely! 99 cents of every dollar given here, stays here in our community.
How is money allotted to agencies? Volunteers like you serve on the Community Investment Committee to review requests, visit the agencies and make funding recommendations. The Community Investment Committee makes recommendations to the full board of directors. Agencies are then notified of the services that United Way will purchase from them based upon our communities’ needs.
How are the agencies accountable? The agency must be a local, non-profit organization operating a program deemed by the United Way Board of Directors to be important to the general human care service system of the community and must have federal tax exempt status under IRS code 501(c)(3); OR a non-501©3 tax-exempt organization whereby funds are distributed for a specific project that are in furtherance of the funding organization’s charitable purposes.
Can I designate my gift to one United Way agency? Yes! Designations to United Way agencies are directed to that agency. United Way agencies receive all designations above and beyond their allocations without any administrative fee deducted.
Can I designate my gift to another non-profit organization? Yes! The United Way directs money every year to many other organizations. There is NO administrative fee for this service.
