About Us

In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. It is the place where great futures are started each and every day.

Q: What is the cost to join the Boys & Girls Club?
A:
Our goal is to ensure our membership fee is affordable to any youth who chooses to come to the Club. Therefore, we have a token membership fee of just $12 per year. There is no other charge for any program or meals we offer. To help teach responsibility and money management, we encourage families to have the children themselves pay for their membership from money they earn baby sitting, snow shoveling or from their allowances! Of course, it costs far more than $12 for all the programs and services we provide. For every Club member, our local community contributes $488 to ensure they have a safe, positive place to learn, grow and have fun.

Q: Who can join? What are the restrictions?
A:
Any youth, ages 6-18 years of age, is welcome to join the Boys & Girls Club. There are no restrictions on family income, geography, religion, or other concerns.

Q: What is there to do at the Club?
A:
The Club first and foremost aims to be a safe, positive place for our kids. We know that many of our members are choosing to come to the Club and we respect their desire to have fun by providing engaging, high interest activities in all of our program areas. Due to the diverse nature of our programs, it is hard to say what may occur on any given day, but examples include digital photography, homework help and one-on-one tutoring, sports team practices (basketball, volleyball, tennis, kickball, dodge ball, soccer, etc), swimming lessons, Air hockey tournaments, chess, drama, gardening and much much more!

Q: My child has special needs. Can they come to the Club?
A:
We are more than happy to work with children with special needs, however, our resources are far more limited than a school environment. We have may happy Club members with autism, ADD, MI, and other diagnosis, and we will work with you to determine if the Club is an environment your child will enjoy and work to integrate your child into our Club environment. Every child is different - the best way to determine if the Club is the right place for your child is to contact us directly.

Q: How are the members supervised?
A:
We have 6 full-time Youth Development Professionals staffing the core program areas as well as a host of volunteers and part-time staff. No program area is open without an adult present and, of course, the pool has certified lifeguards on duty at all times. We aim to have a 20:1 ratio at all times (better than most classrooms) and we often have smaller ratios for small group programs.

Q: How are staff and volunteers screened?
A:
All staff and volunteers undergo a thorough screening process which includes a background check (including national criminal record & sex offender registry search, SSN verification, as well as personal and professional reference checks), personal interviews, training in child safety, mandated reporting and positive guidance & discipline among other topics.

Q: This sounds great! Can I stay at the Club with my child?
A:
For the safety of all of the youth at the Club, we do not allow parent participation on a regular basis. Parents (or other un-screened adults) must be accompanied by a staff member at all times in the Club, which means fewer staff supervising our members and running programs. However, we have family fun nights on occasion and provide tours of the facility to new families.

Q: Can I rent the Boys & Girls Club for a Birthday Party?
A:
Absolutely! The Club is available any time our regular programs are not in session. Check out our website for more details!
