Tallahassee SmileLabs Teeth Whitening FAQ

Is this whitening treatment for everyone?

This treatment delivers exceptional results to people whose teeth have been stained by smoking or by substances like coffee, tea, wine or cola drinks. However pregnant women, children under the age of 14, and clients with periodontal disease are discouraged from undergoing this procedure.

What's the difference between a single and double session - and how do I know which one I need?

A single session is one 20 minute session. A double session is two 20 minute sessions. We will shade your teeth before and after the session so you can see how many shades lighter your teeth become. We always do a single session first and let you see your results. If you would like your teeth to be whiter, you can do another 20 minute session and pay the difference between a single and a double session. You can do the double session back to back on the same day, or you can wait up to a week between the first and second sessions. You will still only pay the difference between a single and double session as long as you come back for the second session within a week of your first session. This way, you don't pay for more than what you need!

How white could my teeth get?

Tests show that, after our treatment, teeth score from 2 -8 shades lighter on the teeth shade scale and are visibly whiter. Individual results will depend on how discolored the teeth were originally, however the end result will be whiter, shinier teeth.

How long will the whitening last?

This varies from person to person and depends on your diet, but the effects sometimes last for a year or more. We offer follow-up treatments for $69, which most people do every 6 months. For those who want to get, keep, and maintain the brightest, whitest smile possible, we recommend our Annual Treatment Package. Just ask if you would like more information about this option!

Is it safe?

Yes, scientific studies have shown that using peroxide to whiten teeth is both very effective and very safe. The dental industry has used it in teeth whitening for over twenty years. It does not change or damage the structure of teeth; it merely makes teeth whiter and brighter. In fact, peroxide compounds have been safely used in various cosmetic procedures for many years. There is a significant amount of clinical data that strongly supports a neutral pH, peroxide-based system.

How long does the treatment take?

Each session cycle takes 15-20 minutes and usually 1 or 2 cycles is all that's required for the full effect. It is that simple!

What is the difference between this and other methods of whitening?

Our whitening technique whitens your teeth immediately and has minimal to no side effects. The result is 30% better than home whitening products and comparable technologies, and at 1/3 the price (or less!) than having your dentist whiten your teeth.

Will it whiten my existing crowns or veneers?

Our whitening treatment cannot change the color of porcelain crowns or veneers.

Will it hurt?

Most of our clients experience no pain or sensitivity during or after the treatment. This is very different than most whitening procedures performed at dental offices. A very small percentage of people may feel some discomfort or sensitivity. Taking an over the counter pain medication can help resolve these issues. Avoid cold or hot drinks for the first 24 hours if there is any tooth sensitivity. The use of a Sensodyne™-type toothpaste can often immediately eliminate any minor sensitivity issues.

Are there side effects associated with whitening?

The two most common side effects are soft tissue irritation and hypersensitivity to the teeth. Irritation typically occurs when either an ill-fitted tray (which we don't use) or the whitening agent is in direct contact with the soft (gum) tissue for a prolonged period of time. That is the reason that we recommend a series of 20 minute treatments. Sensitivity usually occurs when there is a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide used and/or when the pH of the whitening agent is more acidic. These side effects are considered mild and temporary and, if present, can be alleviated with an over-the-counter pain reliever or a Sensodyne™-type toothpaste. Any issues are usually resolved within a few hours. The majority of our clients experience no sensitivity issues at all.

Does the FDA regulate whitening gel?

No. Teeth whiteners are not classified as drugs, therefore the FDA does not regulate them directly. In the USA, however, they do regulate the gel manufacturer. Therefore, it's extremely important to use USA-made gels. All of our whitening gels are manufactured in the USA.

Who will be assisting me during the whitening process?

A trained Authorized Dealer or their technician will assist you. They are not dentists or dental personnel. This is not a dental procedure; it is a cosmetic procedure. They will not be performing any invasive actions. They don't insert their fingers, instruments, or anything in a client's mouth.

February 21 · Majesty is top notch in customer service! I was leery of the process because I have super sensitive teeth, to the point even basic whitening toothpaste bothers me. Majesty felt like Smile Labs would work so I gave it a try! She was super careful in helping apply the whitening gel to make sure none got on my gums just to be extra careful. She was knowledgeable about the whole process and made you feel at ease. I have to say....I have had ZERO issues from the process. I decided to do a second round just to get the extra white look I wanted and again no issues. I highly recommend this process! You will not be disappointed and all you have to lose is yellow teeth!

April 6 · Attention sensitive teeth folks: I had my teeth whitened by Majesty at Tallahassee SmileLabs last month. I cannot use Crest Whitestrips, because they make my gums and teeth sore after just one 30 min strip. I also had Zoom Whitening years ago that was brutally painful, however did yield good results. Let me tell you, I got the same great results as the Zoom, but with NO PAIN whatsoever, and a 1/4 of the cost. I would recommend Majesty and Tallahassee SmileLabs to anyone! My teeth are fairly white already. Majesty was able to get them several shades whiter with just one treatment! Next time I'm going in for the 2 back to back treatments. Five stars all the way! Professional, comfortable, pain free, lovely office, great staff, and fantastic results.

The Infinity™ Pro SL Whitening Accelerator Light

Professional whitening is best performed with light technology. Light technology is referred to as photo-polymerization and was first approved by the FDA for teeth whitening in 1996. The Infinity™ Pro SL is a LED lamp that uses a cold blue light tuned to a wavelength of 480-500 nanometers. The light technology system works by accelerating the chemical reaction, rapidly speeding up the treatment time. During a treatment, the accelerator light is placed directly in front of the client's open mouth for 20 minutes. The Infinity™ Pro SL uses the perfect wavelength of light and is designed to accelerate the whitening process of our teeth whitening gel.
Applia-Brush™ and Teeth Whitening Gel

The procedure is very simple. First, clients place a mouth prop and cheek retractors in their mouth while observing themselves in a mirror. Second, using our new, patented Applia-Brush™ gel applicator, the technician easily brushes the photosensitive whitening gel onto the outer surfaces of the client's teeth. This means the gel is only applied to the teeth and not to the gums, which avoids teeth sensitivity and gum irritation. Our teeth whitening gel utilizes peroxide-based chemistry. The teeth whitening gel is 16% hydrogen peroxide in a viscous, water-based, food-grade gel. This means that the whitening gel hydrates the teeth throughout the whitening procedure. Hydration of the teeth is important because that is what prevents sensitivity.

Hi!  I'm Majesty! My husband, Kendall, and I got into this business unexpectedly. I actually have a Master's Degree from FSU in Educational Measurement and Statistics, and I've been a psychometrician for over 25 years in Tallahassee. My husband is a CPA, and he's the Tax Director at Mainline Information Systems. But our oldest son was getting married, and he and his fiancee wanted to have their teeth whitened for their engagement photo shoot. I searched all over Tallahassee and Gainesville (where our son was attending UF) for an affordable teeth whitening location, but I was unsuccessful. Some dentists' offices offered Zoom whitening for $450 - $800, and you also had to be a patient there or pay an additional $125 to become a patient. I also heard that  Zoom could be quite painful! I started researching other possibilities and came across the SmileLABS products. I was SO impressed with the online reviews and results people were getting! Kendall and I researched it more and realized this process and these products offered the SAME results you get at a dentist's office with very little or no pain and MUCH less money! I decided to stop analyzing statistics and open up a cosmetic teeth whitening salon!  (Kendall had to keep his job!) :) I am not a dentist, but I have been extensively trained about the products and their application. I am excited to bring this service to the Tallahassee community and surrounding areas! Please come visit us at Tallahassee SmileLABS Teeth Whitening and see how much brighter YOUR smile can be in only 20 minutes!
