Sarah Grady Ackerman talks with Sonya White from the Leon County Humane Society on precautions to remember when it comes to decorating if you are a pet owner. Moms especially as they are cautious with their toddlers also need to keep in mind to be cautious with their pets. Be sure to pay attention to electric cords, lights, candles, and plants like poinsettias. There may be some problems if you pet jumps up on the counter or climbs up the holiday tree. Use common sense that you would apply if you have a toddler with your pets as well. Most common mistake is giving your pets human treats and food during the holidays. The rich, fatty sauces and foods are not good for your pets. Also, during the holidays there is a lot of traffic coming and going, and it may be stressful for the pets. Putting your pet in a quiet place can help both the pet and the owner.
