Holiday Travel by Car

Sarah Grady Ackerman talks with Dr. Dennis G. Fiorini of Fiorini Chiropractic Centers about Road Travel during the Holiday Season. An important but probably an unpopular piece of advice, Dr. Fiorini explains that the number one thing that you can do to stay healthy and pain-free on a road trip is to get out of the car every 45 minutes to 1 hour.
The good news is that you don’t have to stay outside the car for an extended length of time. You can get out for 2 or 3 minutes, do a little stretching, or simply use the restroom. Dr. Fiorini suggests that you drink a lot of water when traveling. This will keep your joints lubricated but also will make you have to stop. You will be grateful at the end of your trip if you get out of the car every hour. It will allow your joints in your body to re-lubricate, helps to get all of the gel in your discs back to where it is supposed to be, and re-set your postural muscles. What happens when you sit for extended periods of time is the fluid gets pushed out of the discs so all of your weight is on those discs. When you get up, it starts to dissipate in your legs and the rest of the joints in your body.
