Sarah Grady Ackerman talks with Paul Clements from America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend about food assistance. During the holiday season, many families may find themselves in need of food assistance. America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend is one of 203 food banks throughout the nation as a member of feeding America, the nation’s network of food banks. No matter where you are from or where you currently reside, there is a food bank serving your community. The food bank’s job is to go out and find food that is available and safe for consumption, take it back to their warehouse to inspect it, and then distribute the food out to over 140 nonprofit and faith based organizations in the community. The food bank in the Big Bend serves 11 counties in area. The food bank doesn’t directly distribute from the food warehouse, but if anyone is in of food assistance, they are to call the food bank. The food bank will direct you on when and where you can pick up hot food or a boxed meal. Seven days a week there food distribution takes place whether it be hot food, a boxed meal, or a bag of food being given away. America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend is always in need for donations if you are on the flip side.
