Daystar Cleaning, Inc. FAQ
Q: My daughter suffers from allergies. Should we pull out all the carpets and purchase tile floors?
Carpeting is actually your home's largest indoor air filter. Contaminants, bacteria and fungi are trapped in the carpet fibers, so you don't breathe them in. But just like any filter, your carpets need to be cleaned regularly to remove all those trapped contaminants, so your home's largest filter--your carpeting--can be effective again in helping your daughter breathe air with far less allergens.
So, no, you don't have to pull out all your carpeting. Just be sure to have your carpets professionally cleaned on a regular basis--every six to twelve months.
Q: Do I need to get carpet protection?
Most carpet warranties require professional carpet cleaning and protection. Carpet protectant will ensure that your carpeting--one of your home's largest investments--lasts longer. Here's why: When you walk on your carpet, the dirt deep down in the fibers can act like sandpaper, cutting your carpet fibers. Carpet protectant puts a shield around each fiber, so normal wear will not damage the fibers. Also, carpet protectant protects the fibers from getting stained with food spills and other accidents.
Q: Who's on the couch with you?
We’ve all seen those grossly enlarged pictures of the little eight-legged creature who lives on our soft furniture, the draperies, and in our carpet. So we’ll spare you the photo of the guy who makes us sneeze and wheeze—the infamous house dust mite. Here in Florida he’s a real problem. That pesky mite is made of up to 80% water, and thrives in a water-rich environment. Folks, we’ve got the perfect home for the dust mite—humidity!
These little critters (about half the size of a dot or period in a sentence) feed on, among other things, dust and human skin scales (which we unfortunately shed on a consistent basis). They can live 3 to 4 months, with about 20 droppings a day—that’s over 2,000 droppings in a lifetime. What’s more disturbing, they can get nourishment from their own droppings and may eat them up to 3 times over. Then the females go and lay eggs—from 60 to 100 eggs a pop!
Q: How do I preserve my Oriental and/or area rugs?
You’ve invested a lot in your beautiful oriental floor coverings, and we understand your concerns. Our certified technicians have received specialized training in the proper cleaning that Oriental rugs require. Incorrect cleaning will leave a residue that dirt will adhere to, and your rug will get dirty more quickly. Dirt and sand act like sandpaper as you walk on the rug and grind them into the surface. This can cause premature wear and damage. For regular maintenance, we recommend that you vacuum frequently, being careful not to catch the fringe, and turn or rotate your rug to avoid wear patterns. Sun will fade your rug, so keep that in mind when placing it. You may need to close drapes or blinds at certain times of the day, or even consider protective window tinting.
Q: I'm thinking about replacing my carpet...
Thinking about the big expense of replacing your floor? Through maintenance, we can provide a cleaner, healthier environment that is safer for you and your family.
