Select TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations across the country collect donations during the spring for local women’s and family shelters for delivery on Mother’s Day. This includes locations in Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, Arizona, North Carolina, New York, Conneticut and Georgia.

Franchises team up with local shelters, schools and other community organizations along with a media partner to collect goods for needy moms.

The purpose of the program is to recognize all moms this Mother’s Day by arranging delivery of small gifts for women who may not be expecting anything this year. This marks the fourth year for the Movers for Moms® program. In 2010, more than 20,000 items were collected for shelters across Michigan, as well as in Denver, Co., Durham, N.C., Fairfield County, Conn., Toledo, Ohio and White Plains, NY.

The donations are determined by individual shelters and range from creature comforts items: nice soaps, hair styling products, shampoos and conditioners, pillows, blankets, slippers and robes to basic needs like underwear and socks.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has women in key leadership roles across the country -- and some of our most successful franchisees are women so the Movers for Moms® program is the perfect match.

This year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is partnering with National Heritage Academies (NHA) schools (K-8), as well as other schools, located in Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, New York, North Carolina and Ohio to facilitate classroom collections. In markets where no NHA schools are present, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® partners with other charter and private schools, as well as local organizations such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.

When does it happen?

Partnering schools began collections in the fall of 2010. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® will pick up and deliver the collected items to partnering women’s shelters on or before Mother’s Day —-Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8.

Feedback from 2010 Movers for Moms® Partners

"We are incredibly grateful for Two Men and a Truck's Movers for Moms Event," said Regina Turner, Executive Director for Bay Area Women's Center. "The true meaning of volunteerism is evident when the community witnesses great partnerships between for profit and non profit businesses. That they chose to assist Women's Shelters across the state lets us all know that Two Men and a Truck franchises are committed to helping the women and children in our communities who most need our help, and we are so thankful for their support."

Regina Turner
Executive Director
Bay Area Women's Center

"YWCA Interim House is so grateful to "Movers for Moms" for providing the best ever Mother's Day for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.  You had to be there to see the beautiful smiles and the feeling that somebody cares about me, today."

Curtis Steen France
Shelter Administrator
YWCA Interim House

“SafeHouse Center is so fortunate to have the support of our community and while all contributions are very important to us, donations made by young people and their families are particularly meaningful to us. Through the Movers for Moms donation drive, we received donations of household items, food, and personal care items which will help us meet the needs of the 40 to 50 shelter residents we work with every day. The support of our community is critical, and we thank everyone involved for their role in working toward a community where all survivors and their children find safety and justice."

Barbara Niess May
Executive Director
SafeHouse Center

START SMART MOVING TIPS

  1. Make your reservations for movers two to four weeks before your move day.
  2. Avoid mixing items from different rooms in the same box.
  3. Use wardrobe boxes to make closets easier to pack. Clothes in drawers can be placed in suitcases.
  4. Use only small boxes for books. They get very heavy, very fast.
  5. For large appliances be sure to check your owner’s manuals to see if there are special instructions for moving.
  6. Never use printed newsprint to wrap fine china.
  7. Always stack dishes upwards when packing.
  8. Pack important and sentimental documents separately to be easily accessible including: children’s health records, passports, family records, insurance information and photo albums.
  9. Remember: the heavier the item, the smaller the box.
  10. Don’t pack with food or supermarket boxes. You never know what little critter is hiding – or if the box will be strong enough to support your possessions.
