CLEANING TIPS

Bathrooms:

1.    How Do You Unclog Shower Heads?

It's a common bathroom cleaning issue - a low-flow shower head that isn't designed to be low-flow. Fortunately, unclogging a shower head is easy with our professional cleaning tips.

Simply remove the shower head, and place it into a mixture of vinegar and hot water. This will loosen the calcium and other materials clogging the mechanism and allow you to experience a full force flow once again!

2.    Bathroom Cleaning Tips:

a. Keep a small vacuum near the bathroom and give the floor and any carpets a quick once over every day.

b. Use a small squeegee after your morning shower to slow the development of water marks.

c. Keep some potpourri, or a fresh candle, in the bathroom for a good scent.

. A simple nylon netting over the drain in the shower or tub can significantly reduce hair clogs.

Kitchens:

1.    How Do I Remove Streaks from Stainless Steel Appliances?

First identify the grain of the stainless steel and always work in the same direction as the grain. Then using a clean cotton cloth and some glass cleaner (or specialty stainless steel cleaner), buff potential streaky finishes until they shine. Keep your eyes peeled at all times for water spots and potential streak problems.

2.    Kitchen Cleaning Tips:

1. Before you begin deep cleaning your kitchen, take the proper steps to prepare. Dust all the areas of the kitchen to prepare the surfaces for your work. Then fill up the sink with a cleaning solution mixture so that you can easily soak your cloth often throughout the process.

2. Start cleaning one side of your kitchen, wiping every surface in small sections top to bottom all the way around the room. Save your microwave and stove for last since they are the greasiest. Save the sink for last since it holds the cleaning solution and end it with a sparkling shine.

3. One quick tip for a stubborn microwave is to place a cup of water in the machine and boil it for a few minutes. This loosens up debris and grime in the microwave for easy cleaning.

4. After you've scrubbed the microwave and stove clean, drain your sink, spray in some all-purpose cleaner and use a brush to thoroughly remove any trace of your cleaning solution. Finish cleaning your kitchen by sweeping or vacuuming the floor, then mop it.

Living Rooms:

1.    How Do I De-Clutter My Home?

a. Consider whether you truly need an item. If you don't know when you last used it, or when you might use it again, consider tossing it out or donating it. Remember - if it looks like junk, feels like junk, and nobody knows what to do with it, it's junk.

b. Make sure whenever you are done with an object, you put it away. Make sure that your family follows this rule as well. One particularly effective method of de-cluttering your life is simply putting away objects left out by others. If they ask the location of the object, tell them that if they didn't pick it up, it's gone. Usually this will only take a couple reminders to start some new habits.

2.    Living Room Cleaning Tips:

a. Start by dusting your living room. Work around the room in a systematic circle and dust every surface possible.

b. Remember to rotate sofa cushions often to encourage even wear and increase their useful life.

c. Always save the vacuum for last. This ensures that you'll suck up all the debris that's been shifted onto the floor during the cleaning process. Newer vacuums should not be pushing dust back into the air, either. If yours has this problem, consider investing in a new one or changing the filters and bags.

Floors:

1.    How Do I Remove Red Wine from Carpet?

First, it's important to act quickly. Don't let the stain set for long before you spring into cleaning mode. A little bit of salt on the stain will help prevent the stain from setting into the carpet and prevent larger problems.

You have a few options for removing the stain - white wine, club soda, and commercial carpet cleaner products are the most popular. Simply pour your cleaning solution of choice onto the stain, and then gently blot up as much wine as possible. Remember - rubbing will force the stain into the carpet and make cleanup more difficult.

2.    How To Clean Floors:

a. Frequent cleaning makes cleaning easier - especially with floors! Don't let your floor turn into a "project."

b. When mopping, start at the furthest corner of the room and then move back towards the entrance.

c. If you have a glossy surface on your floor, use a clean cloth wrapped around the end of the squeezed-out mop to avoid streaks.

d. Damp mop only after loose dirt and debris has been thoroughly removed with a broom, vacuum, or dust mop.

e. Use a combination of warm water and all-purpose cleaner (follow manufacturer instructions for exact amounts) to mop ceramic tile and vinyl floors effectively.

Molly Maid FAQ

Q: What makes Molly Maid a better choice than another cleaning company?
A: Best value, as in quality, thoroughness and price. Good Housekeeping Magazine performed a secret test of housecleaning companies located in Arizona, Wisconsin and New Jersey. They contacted homeowners with similar homes in each area. They gave them checklists of items that should be accomplished and had them arrange a one-time cleaning with one of the national cleaning companies in their area. After the cleanings were accomplished and the checklists tallied, Good Housekeeping Magazine awarded Molly Maid with their “Best Value” award. This was due to the fact that Molly Maid not only completed more items on their checklists but also had the lowest price of all the companies.
Q: Do you use a certain method to clean homes?
A: Yes. Molly Maid is an international housecleaning company. But each local franchise is individually owned and operated by a local resident. Over the last 30 years Molly Maid has developed a unique cleaning system called “Top to Bottom, Left to Right”. This means that, as each housecleaner enters each room of a house, they start by removing cobwebs and clean downward. This is the direction that dust falls. They also clean each room from left to right as opposed to jumping around. That way, nothing is missed.
Q: Who will come to clean my house?
A: We use teams of 2 cleaners each. One does the wet work (Bathrooms, Kitchens and mopping floors) and the other does the dry work (dusting and vacuuming). This way, they are not in each others way. In each subsequent home, they switch roles.
Q: Are your employees bonded?
A: Yes. All of our employees are licensed, bonded, insured and background checked.
Q: What does licensed, bonded and insured mean?
A: Licensed means that Molly Maid and our employees are licensed with the State of Nevada, Washoe County, the City of Reno and the City of Sparks. Bonded means that Molly Maid and all employees are covered by an insurance company to cover any theft or wrong doing. Insured means that Molly Maid and all employees are covered by an insurance company to cover any accident, injury or loss.
Q: What cleaning frequencies do you offer?
A: We offer weekly, every two weeks and monthly cleans. The monthly cleans are actually every 4 weeks or 28 days. We also offer one-time cleans which are move-outs, move-ins or help me out cleans.
Q: Do I have to sign a contract?
A: No. Molly Maid’s relationship with our customers is based on the quality of each clean. Quality insures customer retention. You can hire us today and fire us tomorrow.
Q: What do you base your pricing on?
A: House size and condition, number of rooms to be cleaned, indoor pets, frequency, etc.
Q: Why can’t you give me an estimate over the phone?
A: One-time cleans are charged by the hour and we can give you a “Guesstimate” over the phone, based on the size of the home. For on-going service, our prices are not based just on the size of the home, but also other things such as number of family members, number of pets, types of flooring, frequency of cleaning, etc. We provide free, no obligation in-home estimates. We want to make sure that we provide you with the correct price.
Q: What if I don’t need my whole house cleaned?
A: This is what we call a “modified” clean. Some of our customers’ only want certain rooms cleaned (i.e. bathrooms and kitchen). We adjust their price accordingly.
Q: Do I have to be home while the team is cleaning my house?
A: No. Most of our customers are not home during the time of service. These customers provide us a spare house key that is kept in our office lock box at all times, except on their day of service. The keys are signed out in morning and signed back in at the end of the day.
Q: Will I have the same team every clean?
A: Yes. Unless you temporarily move one of your cleanings to a different day and your team does not have available time on that day. You will always be informed of that.
Q: Will my cleanings always be at the same time of day?
A: We try our best to keep arrival times consistent, but occasionally an earlier customer might move or temporarily cancel their clean. This will cause your clean to be earlier than previously scheduled. Winter weather or traffic accidents can also affect arrival times. We will always inform you of any changes.
Q: What if I need to temporarily cancel a clean?
A: We always try to reschedule the clean, but if that is not possible, we require a 72-hour advance notice. The notice is required because almost every day we receive requests for one-time cleans which have to be turned down because we have no open time slots.
Q: Do I need to supply any of the cleaning supplies?
A: No. Each team of 2 brings all of the cleaning equipment and liquids needed to thoroughly clean the entire home. But if a customer wants any special chemicals or polishes used, they can provide them but not hold Molly Maid responsible for any damage caused by these products.
Q: What kind of cleaning solutions do you use?
A: We use Ecolab solutions. Ecolab also supplies hospitals, hotels, restaurants, etc. Their liquids are non-toxic, non-allergenic and odorless.
Q: Do you change linens?
A: Yes, as long as you remove the dirty ones and leave the clean ones on the bed.
Q: What if I’m not satisfied with the work performed?
A: This rarely happens but our cleanings are guaranteed. Just call our office within 24 hours of the cleaning and we will send the team back to clean the items missed. This free of charge because the customer has already paid for the missed items.
Q: Does Molly Maid support the local community in any way?
A: Yes. The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Molly Maid owners across the U. S. support Molly Maids’ Ms. Molly Foundation which in turn supports local shelters and victims. Throughout the year, Molly Maid of Reno Sparks donates a small percentage of every housecleaning to our 2 local shelters. Also, during the month of September, Molly Maid of Reno Sparks delivers to each of our customers a paper shopping bag with a shelter wish list letter attached. During October we bring the full bags back our office. In early November we deliver the bags and the cash to each of the 2 shelters.
