BoMar Heating & Cooling FAQ

Q: Should I bother having my furnace or a/c checked every year?
A:
Having proper annual maintenance done keeps them running at peak efficiency and helps to prevent breakdowns on the coldest or hottest days. We have also found that it actually extends the lifespan of the equipment.

Q: Are there furnace filters that can help my allergies or asthma?
A:
There are several whole house filtration systems that install onto your furnace. These systems have been tested to prove they dramatically reduce particulates and improve indoor air quality. We typically do not recommend the 1" pleated filters as we find they severely restrict air flow causing system performance problems.

Q: How do I know if I need my ductwork cleaned?
A:
A simple inspection can be done by removing a supply and return grill to visually inspect your system. Debris naturally collects in a duct system through usage. This can get into your equipment and decrease efficiency. In addition, this debris contains allergens and contributes to house dusting. That is why we recommend systems be cleaned every 5 years.

Q: What can I do with my old drafty fireplace?
A:
Modern gas or wood fireplace inserts are very efficient, beautiful to look at and offer a great alternative way to heat your home. These can be installed right into your existing fireplace opening. You can even operate gas units off a remote control system with temperature settings to maximize comfort.

Q: Is there really much difference between heating and a/c companies?
A:
We have found a wide variance in the procedures done by companies when performing repairs, maintenance and installations. All consumer groups and manufacturers recommend to always use a company that employs NATE certified technicians. You also want a company that takes their time to do things the best way possible to ensure your equipment runs at peak efficiency. Many companies choose to only do the bare minimum as that takes less time and effort. The cheapest company will never be the one to go that extra step. The old saying, "you get what you pay for", still holds very true today.
