Marling Lumber and HomeWorks FAQ
Q: How much will my kitchen renovation cost?
A: It depends on the cabinets and the countertops. The rule of thumb is cost of the cabinets is about half of the cost of a project. We recommend you set a budget and then we can add or subtract items to get you in your desired price range. While replacing the cabinet doors may seem like the way to go - cabinet doors are about 80% of the cost of a cabinet so when you factor in labor, it might actually be more economical to replace the entire cabinet than just get new doors. The same holds true for bathroom remodels.
Q: Can I just add new cabinets?
A: Sure - but the color of your cabinets might have been one color 10 or 15 years ago - and after time your cabinets will get a new patina and the color changes. We recommend you bring in a drawer from the old cabinets to see if we can color match.
Q: How long is the remodel going to take?
A: It depends on how extensive the project is. We do the measurements for you. We can order all the materials and when they all come in - you can schedule the demolition and installation. Cabinets can take anywhere from two to five weeks to delivery from time of order. It is best to plan ahead, especially for special occasions or the holidays.
Q: Can you do the design work?
A: Our design services are free. We have everything from flooring to lighting at HomeWorks. You can pick out everything you want. We can price to fit your budget. Computerized designing allows us to move cabinets or sinks around, to reconfigure your space and then do the ordering. We even have samples for you to take home. You can take countertop samples, cabinet wood samples and even flooring samples home to see how they look in a specific room with specific lighting.
Q: Do you do the installation?
A: No - but we do have a list of contractors that we can recommend. We suggest you get several different quotes on your project and pick a contractor you are comfortable with.
