House Works: St. Patrick's Day Cabbage

St. Patrick's day is coming up this weekend, and so you might be looking for a recipe that you could serve your guests if you are having a get-together. And you probably want it to put you and your friends in that St. Patrick's Day kind of mood.

In House Works, Chef Judy shares a unique recipe using red cabbage that is perfect for the holiday.

Drunken Cabbage

Serve this hot or cold, and as a side for chicken or pork.

6 ounces bacon, diced
1 medium onion, sliced 1/4" thick
1 medium red cabbage head, cored and sliced
2 tablespoons caraway seeds
3 tablespoons mustard
12 ounces beer
2 tablespoons turbinado sugar
salt and pepper to taste

In a large saucepan, cook the bacon over low heat. Add the onions and saute for 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and season. Cook until cabbage is tender, about 30 minutes.
