About Us

For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life.

As the nation's leading mentoring organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationship that change their lives for the better, forever.

The “Big” and “Little” matches participate in activities either at school or throughout the community.  Big Brothers Big Sisters has proven that children in our programs are less likely to start using drugs or alcohol, have improved relationships with parents and/or guardians, having more confidence, do better in school and break many negative cycles overall.  Their lives are impacted on everything from a peer/social perspective to an economic development perspective.  This impact can only happen when YOU, an adult, choose to become a “Big” and change their life for the better, forever.

We are a private, donor-driven and volunteer-supported nonprofit organization with the majority of our funding generated from fundraising efforts such as Bowl For Kids’ Sake, Spirits at the Depot, Bike For Kids’ Sake and Holiday Bash.  Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Kentucky serves children ages 6-17 in Allen, Barren and Warren Counties.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters mission is the help children reach their potential through one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters vision is successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all.

What is Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Kentucky?
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a private, donor-driven and volunteer-supported nonprofit organization that provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

What are the opportunities to volunteer at Big Brothers Big Sisters?
Big Brothers Big Sisters has opportunities for males, females and couple to volunteer within the agency’s two mentoring programs.

Community-Based Mentoring Program:
  • This program is available to volunteers ages 18 and up who are willing to spend time doing activities in the community together. This is for 2-4 hours a week and is at least a one-year commitment.
  • Matches enjoy attending sporting events, going to parks, watching movies, sharing a meal, and just “hanging out” together. Volunteers can share their interests and hobbies with a child and do many simple, low-cost activities.

School-Based Mentoring Program:
  • This program is available to volunteers ages 15 and up who are willing to meet with a child at the child’s school. This is for 1-2 hours a week during the school year and is at least a one-year commitment.
  • Depending on the school, volunteers may meet with their child either during school hours (lunch) or in the after-school program. Our matches have fun playing indoor and outdoor games, having snack time, and doing homework together. Volunteers explore the child’s world by sharing common interests/hobbies, listen to them and be another encouraging person in their life.

Does being a “Big” require a lot of time?
No, you can do activities you are currently already doing within your normal routine. The program is about showing the “Little” what a positive person, family and relationship means all while enjoying the school/community in which we live in. It is also about showing/telling them about what the community has to offer and how they, too, can give back.

Are there other ways to help Big Brothers Big Sisters?
Yes, you can attend one of our fundraising events, be a silent or live auction item(s) donor, be an event sponsor or have your own fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Kentucky. Without the tremendous support of the community/businesses, the agency’s fundraising would not be a success. All the funds raised go directly to supporting the mentoring programs.
