Q: Can a mother bring her children to the shelter?
A: Yes. The emergency shelter serves women and their dependent children.
Q: What is the fee for services?
A: All of our services are free and confidential.
Q: What happens when someone enters the shelter?
A: Shelter residents are provided with basic necessities. Safety planning is offered. Residents attend daily groups and meet with Advocates to set goals. Appropriate referrals are accessed. Services include housing assistance, career development, assistance with school enrollment, children's services, self-esteem groups, parenting groups.
Q: How long does someone stay in the shelter?
A: There is no minimum or maximum criteria for length of residency. Each individual is unique and comes with unique needs. An average length of stay is 22 days, but some families stay for 3 months.
Q: Are there opportunities for me to learn parenting skills?
A: Yes, the shelter runs several parenting groups, a Child Witness group, Mommy and Me music group. We also refer to other agencies to help mothers who request additional assistance.
