The Humane Society of Elkhart County is hosting their 4th annual PET FEST (A Day to Honor Your Pets and the Animals that Remain Homeless) on Saturday, August 18. The schedule of events includes registration and pet party favor give away starting at 11:00 am.

There is a group pet blessing and Homeless Animal Day Memorial Ceremony at 11:45 am followed by pet games including Dogs Dunking for Dogs at 12:00 pm (dogs will dunk for hot dogs in water pool), Musical Hoops at 12:30 pm (similar to musical chairs) and a Canine/Human Water Relay at 1:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded to all winners.

The pet parade will begin at 1:30 pm. There will be a contest during the parade for cutest costume, owner/pet look-a-like and most unusual pet. Prizes will be awarded to all winners.

Other activities include an on-leash agility course and demonstrations by Planet Canine, pet photos by Kristin McKibbin, pet related vendors, raffles and free refreshments for humans and animals.

The shelter will be open for adoptions and will offer adopt one, get a companion animal for free. Adoption specials include 50% off cats and dogs 5 years old or younger and 75% off cats and dogs over 5 years old.

Dogs for Dollar$ and Kona Ice will sell additional refreshments. Don Kilgren and the SL4 Band will provide musical entertainment. The Red Barn Resale Shop will be open with a 25% discount on all purchases.

The Bridgman Gus Macker committee announces your time to register has not run out! Gus Macker has extended the deadline to register for the July 14th & 15th event until July 5, 2012 at midnight. Registration can be done online only at www.macker.com. Teams of 4 are $100 for 18 and under and $128 for 19 and up.
The Gus Macker event is just part of a jammed packed weekend planned for the second weekend in July in Bridgman. The Celebrate Bridgman event kicks off on Thursday July 12th with Sidewalk Sales in downtown Bridgman, Curious Kids Show at 1:00 under the big top and a Teen Dance under the Big Top off of Lake Street in the city parking lot, followed by more Sidewalk Sales on Friday and Saturday, the Fireman’s Street Dance on Friday and Saturday nights, American Legion Pancake Breakfast both Saturday and Sunday, Sand Sculpture contest at Weko Beach on Saturday morning, 5K walk/run Saturday, Red Arrow Car Show on Saturday, Farmers Market, Craft show, Parade and more!
