Q: I have back problems and my doctor wants me to get an MRI. What is the difference in the MRI you have at Visionary Medical Imaging compared to the other MRI’s in this area?
A: There are three types of MRI machines: Low field, Open, and High Field. The high field (1.5 Tesla) closed MRI has been the industry standard for many years. Now, there is a new standard which is a 3.0 Tesla. The 3.0 Tesla high definition MRI offers unprecedented speed and image quality for improved diagnostic confidence. The 3.0 Tesla takes less time to complete a scan making the experience more comfortable. More importantly, there is no additional cost since the 3 Tesla studies are billed at the same rate as other MRI studies. Open MRI’s offer very low field strength, resulting in longer studies and inferior images. Visionary Medical Imaging has the only OPEN MRI in the region for patients who are severely claustrophobic or due to weight issues are unable to have a closed MRI study done.
