Benefits of a high-fiber diet

Trying to lose a few pounds? You may be able to by just changing one thing… by eating more fiber.

By choosing high fiber foods that are also water-based, you can feel full on fewer calories. Controlling hunger helps us lose weight, and eating fiber-rich foods makes us feel fuller longer. Foods like fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and whole grains are high in fiber.

And, according to the National Weight Control Registry, those who’ve lost weight and kept it off, have something in common… they eat breakfast. That breakfast usually consists of high-fiber cereal.

Women should aim for at least 25 grams of fiber a day. A cup of raspberries has 8 grams of fiber and a cup of raisin bran cereal has 6 and a half.
