According to WebMD, gestational diabetes -- diabetes that develops during pregnancy -- is relatively common, affecting about 4% of all pregnant women.
Lynn Severson, a Nurse Practitioner at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, tells us more about gestational diabetes, including factors that can increase a woman's risk for developing it. She also explains how it can affect both the pregnant woman AND her unborn baby. Lynn tells us how a woman knows if she has gestational diabetes, how it's treated, and what women can do to help prevent it.
