The Right Way to Do a Self Breast Exam

We women have all heard about how important it is that we perform regular, monthly self-breast exams. But if we don’t know what exactly we’re looking for, or if we’re even doing it right….then how useful are they?

Georgia Smith is a registered nurse and also the Director of Cancer Care Services at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. She explains what we need to be looking for during our self-breast exams. She briefly explains the proper way to do a self breast exam and when (time of month/time of day) we should be preforming them. She also explains what we should be looking for and what a cancerous lump "feels" like. And if we are a woman who is prone to lumpy or fibrocystic breasts to begin with, she discusses how we will know what's normal and what's not. And finally, she tells us when we should come to the doctor for further evaluation.
