The Safe Kids Wichita Area coalition is part of a nationwide network of organizations working to prevent unintentional childhood injury, the leading cause of death and disability for children ages 1-14. The coalition was started in 1988 and consists of more than 30 local and state agencies working together to educate families and caregivers, provide safety devices to families in need and advocate for better laws to help keep children safe, healthy and out of the emergency room.
The local coalition is one of the more than 600 coalitions and chapters in all 50 states, bringing together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families.
Locally our volunteers provide free car seat checks, pedestrian safety education, bicycle safety clinics, fire and burn prevention programs as well as water safety, sports and recreation safety and home safety programs.
Via Christi Health serves as the lead agency for Safe Kids Wichita Area.
