Shenandoah Valley Animal Shelter

The Shenandoah County Animal Shelter provides essential animal services to the citizens of Shenandoah County. If you are looking for a pet for your home, you may view our pets online. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments about the Animal Shelter, feel free to contact us at any time.

Adoption Policy

Individuals wishing to adopt an animal from our shelter must complete a screening form. After the form is processed, there is a $10.00 adoption fee for cats, $15.00 for dogs, plus a $25.00 charge for cats and $35.00 for dogs, for spaying or neutering. It is required by Virginia State Law and the Shenandoah County Ordinance that all animals adopted from the shelter be spayed or neutered. A special voucher will be given to the "adoptee" for the amount of deposit. The voucher can then be applied toward the cost of spaying and neutering at participating veterinarian offices.

Foster Care

In order to maximize our extremely limited shelter space, we operate a foster care program by which animals can temporarily be kept at various homes throughout the area. If you'd like to help the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter by keeping a pet in your home, please consider applying to this program.

If you're interested, please download and complete this application. Once completed, you can drop it off at our office, which is located at 268 Landfill Road in Edinburg, Virginia, or fax your application to (540) 984-8517.
