More than 420 local students will go back to school with a new haircut and new school supplies.
Those are things the group might not have if it were not for "Giving Back With Cuts".
LL McKee Salon has been hosting the day to help local students in need get ready for the new school year for the past six years.
Along with getting a fresh hair do, the kids get school supplies like notebooks and backpacks.
Organizers say the look on the kids' faces says it all.
Owner, Lisa McKee, says, "Just to see how even an extra box of crayons can turn some little girls day around so she can go home and actually color, it's just an amazing feeling."
McKee explains, "My church kind of helped me get involved, trying to figure out how to use the talent for good. And we came up with donating free haircuts for kids and then it kind of grew from that with school supplies and dental hygiene kits and Frederick County Sheriff's Office comes out this year and they do their finger prints for Amber Alert and school bus stop safety and so it's kind of grown into more of an event kind of a day versus just a free haircut."
Give back with cuts is on August 12th.
If you would like to help by donating some school supplies, you can drop them off at the salon in the old section of Creekside.
