Dress for Success River Cities FAQ

What is Dress for Success?
Dress for Success is an organization whose mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. We work with many community partners who refer women to us for services.

Who do you help?
We help women who may be entering the workforce for the first time, or women who are reentering the workforce after not working for some time (perhaps to stay home and care for children). We provide a hand up, not a hand out, to support women in reaching their goals to gain employment and become financially stable.

Is it more than just providing clothing?
Yes! While the greatest percentage of our clients come to us for suiting services, we also offer clients many other services as well. We operate a career center, which provides assistance in finding and obtaining a job (creating a resume, conducting mock interviews, etc). We also provide several additional on-going programs that assist with searching for and gaining employment and a support-group type of program for women who have obtained employment and need help with retaining their job and continuing to thrive.

We hear you have an exciting event coming up...can you tell us about it?
We have our annual Power Walk 5K and Stiletto Stroll coming up next Saturday, October 17th at Ritter Park. Registration for our 5K begins at 7 am, with the race beginning at 8 am. The Stiletto Stroll begins at 9:30 am, as well as some family fun activities. We will have an inflatable from H&H Enterprises, and the Putnam Princesses will also be in attendance. Our Power Walk raises much-needed revenue for our day-to-day operations and the services we provide. Our Stiletto Stroll is a great way to get men involved in our mission. Several brave men have already signed up and it is quite comical to watch them try to walk in shoes that as women we walk in everyday. If anyone is interested in participating in either event, they can still register by visiting www.tristateracer.com.

Our Vision

Our vision is a world where women do not live in poverty. We strive for a world where all women are financially independent, are treated with dignity and respect and are directly impacting their lives and those of their families. We aspire to a world that fully harnesses the power of women and recognizes their role in economic sustainability.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to offer long-lasting solutions that enable women to break the cycle of poverty. Dress for Success is part of a global movement for change, empowering women to obtain safer and better futures.

We provide each client with professional attire to secure employment, but we are about much more than simply a new outfit. Besides physically equipping the client with apparel and accessories, our programs furnish her with a confidence that she carries forever and the knowledge that she can actively define her life, the direction she takes and what success means to her.

Our Beliefs

Every woman has the right to realize her full potential and achieve financial independence in a more egalitarian world. We believe that with the proper education, tools and action this world is possible.

Poverty often affects women the most, and its effects on them and their families can be long-lasting. Therefore, addressing women’s needs is central to improving the quality of life for not only that woman but also her family, future generations and her community. In fact, recognizing the significant role of women in economic development is the smart thing to do, as well as being socially and morally right.

We believe that achieving gender equality is imperative to developing a sustainable and just world for all, which is possible by acknowledging the crucial role that women play in the world economy.

We believe that by building up a woman’s agency and knowledge, better synergies between gender equality and economic sustainability are realized, enabling her to generate a long-term impact in both her private and public life.

7 Ways To Get Involved
