About Us

Mothers of Preschoolers, MOPS, is a grassroots movement that believes moms are world influencers. We connect moms all over the world to a local faith-based community of women, who meet together to laugh, cry and embrace the journey of motherhood. MOPS groups are rallying women to be more honest, to feel more equipped and to find identity by journeying alongside one another.

MOPS of First Baptist Russell FAQ

What is MOPS?
Mothers of Preschoolers, MOPS, is a grassroots movement that believes moms are world influencers. We connect moms all over the world to a local faith-based community of women, who meet together to laugh, cry and embrace the journey of motherhood. MOPS groups are rallying women to be more honest, to feel more equipped and to find identity by journeying alongside one another.

How do you help moms in your area?
MOPS is about connecting moms to empower one another with encouragement and support. We were not created to journey through motherhood alone. At MOPS we promote fellowship and strong friendships. MOPS has a "formal" meeting on the second Thursday of every month September through May. We also coordinate various play dates and special group events throughout the year.

Our local MOPS group collaborates with numerous outreach and community service efforts to support other local moms in need.

What to expect at meeting?
Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month from September through May from 9:00-11:30 at First Baptist Church, 901 Ashland Dr. Russell, KY. We provide breakfast and coffee, a speaker, small group discussion and a craft. Meeting topics are designed to be relevant to all moms in this season of life. Some of these topics include friendship, vulnerability and a reoccurring theme of flourishing.

MOPS is membership based. Along with the fun perks of being a registered member (emails, monthly publication, Facebook support), you are part of a movement that is changing the world for generations. The $51.95 membership pays for an international and local MOPS membership and covers the costs associated with childcare, crafts and some play dates. The cost of membership should never be a reason not to join MOPS, we want you to be part of this - Scholarships are available, contact us for more information.

How does childcare work during meeting?
While moms are down hall in meeting, our children, Moppets, have fun participating in crafts, educational activities, snack time and Bible stories. The nursery is available, or babies under 12 months may stay with mom during the meeting. All workers are infant and child CPR/first aid certified. Two of our workers are certified in special needs for infants and children. There is also a Patient Care Technician and Certified Nurses' Assistant on staff. Please RSVP so we can have adequate staff. Arrive at 8:50 for childcare drop off and to meet the caregivers.

What events are there outside of the meetings?
Play dates are held throughout the year. We have met at the Ironton spray ground, local parks, Highlands Museum, Chick-fil-A, individual's homes and crafting play dates at the church. We also coordinate numerous nights out for mom and group date nights.

The Basic Principles of a MOPS Group

Welcoming to all Women

We've all been placed in this time and place in history, as the tribe of women who are raising the world. And the beauty of it is that we don’t all have to agree with one another but everyone is in and we all need each other.

Mentoring

Sometimes we need a wise woman who has been there and done that to bounce ideas off of. That’s why we love our Mentor moms, they have sage advice and willing ears.

Leadership Development

You have the ability to do big things. We want to help you gain the confidence to use your voice to change your world.

Honest Conversation

Real talk is liberating. It frees us from assumptions that we are alone in our struggles. We value taking a risk and sharing your story in order to heal someone else from their isolation.

Relevant Teaching

Really, who needs another tutorial on how to make crepe paper flowers? What we provide is mommy friends who get you, hope-filled insight, and speakers who know we've only had three hours of uninterrupted sleep last night so they better keep it interesting.

Creative Activities

Create, imagine, and actually finish a project. We occasionally like to have something "pinteresty" (Yes, that is a made up word. Work with me here.) to make at our meetings. We all need a little time to indulge in a creative endeavor.

Childcare

Look, we all love our kids, but let’s be honest: a little break now and then makes us want to be with them even more. We provide a preschool-style experience for your kiddos that they will love going back to.
