This article, entitled "My First Weekend Home Alone," comes from Melanie Bloom, MomsEveryday blogger from Lincoln, NE.
I recently spent an entire weekend away from my husband and two kids. This was my first time being away from all of them!
My husband took our two children, ages 1 and 3, to visit some of his relatives that live about 8 hours away. This was planned to visit family and to give me a weekend all alone to do whatever I wanted! I have such a sweet husband. He actually wanted me to stay home and spend some time alone!
You know that being a mom means being on the go all the time, caring for kids, cooking dinner, cleaning the house, working 40 hours per week and everything in between! I was excited and nervous about all of that disappearing for three entire days.
They drove off and I cried as I waved at them pulling out of the drive! The house was quiet. I looked around and realized that I had no one asking me for anything, no toys to pick up, nowhere to go! It was strange to be in this position.
My first order of business on my solo weekend: cleaning. Really? Yes, I wanted to clean! I swept, vacuumed, dusted, even painted parts of the ceiling! I was actually enjoying it. It feels good to get things accomplished!
Of course, I was able to spend plenty of time relaxing! I caught up on watching my latest obsession, Downton Abbey.
Do you ever try to look back and remember what life was like before being married and having kids. How did I spend my time? I'm sure I could have accomplished so much more when I had all that free time. I did get to take naps whenever I wanted, though. Naps are good.
Becoming a wife and mother certainly teaches us to appreciate time and manage it as effectively as we can!
I was concerned about being away from them for that long and talked with husband and kids each night. It was even better when they came home and I gave them really big hugs!
With my family back, the clean house didn't last very long, but it was fun while it lasted! It's good to be together again.
