Take control of your seasonal allergies

This article, entitled "Take Control of Your Seasonal Allergies," comes from Liz Hayes, MomsEveryday correspondent from Central Wisconsin.

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, May is the peak season for outdoor allergy sufferers. But there is relief on the horizon.

There are three courses of treatment for allergies.

The first, and perhaps most difficult, is to steer clear of allergens by removing them from your home and environment.

Next, consider medications. Antihistamine and decongestants are the most common and offer temporary relief.

Finally, immunotherapy. More commonly known as allergy shots, immunotherapy involves giving an allergy sufferer higher doses of the allergen over time so that they eventually become immune.

Allergies are a very common ailment, but with proper diagnosis and treatment, people can continue to live productive lives.
