This article, entitled "How to Choose the Safest Sunscreen," comes from Amanda Lanum, MomsEveryday correspondent from Topeka, KS.
Sunscreen is a safe step to protect our skin from dangerous UV rays. We especially want to protect our little ones' sensitive skin, but not all sunscreen is created equally.
When you're reading the ingredients label on sunscreen, look for two ingredients: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These are minerals that will protect your skin from both UV-A and UV-B rays. Many sunscreens have been found to only protect from UV-A, but UV-B rays are actually more dangerous.
Avoid products that contain retinol, which can also be listed as reinyl palmitate or vitamin A. These ingredients are found to actually increase the development of skin cancer when exposed to the sun.
Another ingredient to avoid is oxybenzone, which can penetrate the skin and cause allergic reactions.
