Date Night

I always like to hear stories about how couples first met. It's fun to see the look in their eyes as they recall the exciting, comical, and magical moments of new love. I think it's so sweet that my hubby can still remember the outfit that I was wearing the night that we went on our first date. Sparks, soul mates, serendipity, whatever couples choose to call it, the first date is where the "we" portion of our lives begin.

It has been over 10 years now since Ted and I went on our first date and I still love date nights. Now that we have a 3-year old and both lead crazy busy lives, date night feels even more important. As any couple will tell you, we all need that time (sans kiddos) to reconnect with our partners. For me, it always feels nice to be able to actively listen to each other without a million interruptions. It also gives us a chance to take off our "adult hats" for a night to just get silly together and have some fun.

Over the years, we've realized that getting out of the house for date night isn't always possible. So, we'll improvise by cooking together or getting creative. Last week, it was as simple as hanging out on our deck after the little guy went to bed. A friendly scrabble competition, warm fire burning in our chiminea, smores, and slow dancing under the stars was the perfect way to spend a summer date night!

Anyway, I know that we all remember those "first date" moments, but it's the date nights and one-on-one time that I get with my hubby now that I really appreciate. So, that begs the question, do you have any creative ways to spend date night? I always like getting new ideas. Drop me a line and let me know. Bye for now.
