Making Time for "Me" Time

As a mom, it's easy to lose yourself in the shuffle of everyday life. At times, we're so busy planning things, running errands, and crossing off things on our to-do lists that we forget to actually take time to do the things we really love. We know these things are good for our souls, but actually taking the time (or finding the time) to do them is another story. So, with my husband's encouragement, I've been making an effort lately to make time for "me" time.

These days, few things help me relax and center the way running does. I can lace up my running shoes, crank up my music, and hit the pavement. It gives me a good hour to lose myself in something I love and let my own thoughts run wild for a bit. It also helps me challenge myself and set goals for the future. This week, I was able to put all my "me" time to good use by running in a 10k in South Bend. Not only was it a lot of fun, but it also encouraged me to push myself harder for future races.

On a recent trip to Chicago, I also ventured out on my own to cross off something fun on my personal "Kris List". I've been wanting to check out the Willis Tower's Ledge. It's a glass box that sits over four feet beyond the building's Skydeck. Visitors are able to walk out and see 103 floors down to the pavement. I'm really glad I took the time to do this on my own. I was able to soak up some amazing views of the Windy City and the best was on my own timetable.

Now, I've really had to get over the guilt involved with doing things for myself. It's so easy to want to let my mind wander about all the things I could be doing for or with my family during that time. Here's what I've decided: just because we're moms doesn't mean we have to forgo doing the things that make us who we are..right? After all, that individualism is part of what made our partners fall in love with us in the first place! I've learned that carving out time for myself has made me a much happier person. I'd love to hear about ways you embrace time to yourself. Drop me a line and let me know. Bye for now!
