Viral social media challenge damaging teens' body image

A new weight loss challenge has been making the rounds on social media with the goal of achieving a waist no wider than a sheet of printer paper.

It's called the A4 Waist Challenge, which refers to the size of standard printer of copy paper. The trend appears to have started in Asia.

It's important to talk to your teen about challenges like this that go viral on social media. Trying to attain that waist size could be dangerous to your teen's health and damaging to their own body image.

Parents should avoid commenting too much about their teen's appearance and discuss things like airbrushing in advertising to help them understand when what they're seeing isn't real.

In addition, avoid disparaging your own body in front of your kids.
