Thankful for the Love of My Kids

Sometimes I listen to the young reporters in our newsroom talk about "going out" and even getting "bored." That was me in my 20s, living in Knoxville, Tennessee. I traveled every month for my job, enjoyed going to movies with my husband, and just hanging out with friends.

That lifestyle changed 11 years ago with the birth of my first child in July 2002. But that's OK. My life is busy now, sometimes overwhelming. But that's OK, too. I'm SO THANKFUL for my life as a mommy. It's my greatest joy.

And this week, my little girl shared with me one of her school journal entries titled "I LOVE MY MOMMY!" It's so sweet, so simple, so real. I just had to share it this Thanksgiving. Here's Olivia's letter, in her own words...

Do you have a mommy who loves you? Well, I do. I love my mommy!

My mommy helps me when I'm hurt. One time when I was rideing my bike when there was water on the ground I feel of my bike and scind my knee and my mommy let me come in and she put some kneeal sporn and a band ad on it and she maid me feel a lot better!

My mommy holds me. One time in the morning when I came down stairs about to go to school she holded me and she was so warm she maid my face glow she maid me realy happy!

My mommy cooks with me. One time we made rice cripsy bars and she let me poor in the marshmelos in and the rice crispes in and I stired and stired and I got the first rice crispy bar.

My mommy holds me, she cooks with me and thats why I love my mommy.

--Olivia, 8 years old

I'm sure your children and grandchildren share similar sentiments that warm your heart. You have to keep their words close and never forget how blessed you are.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
