Mason jar herb garden

If you hate buying herbs from the store, because you could just pick them from your garden -- if you had the time and energy for a garden, here's how you can grow them in your kitchen.


  • Mason jars (or pickle jars, pasta jars, any type of jar will do)
  • Potting soil
  • River rocks
  • Herbs of your choice


  1. Layer river rocks in the bottom of the jar.
  2. Fill the jar halfway with potting soil.
  3. Break up the roots of your herb plant.
  4. Place herb plant into the jar and water.
