What do children say is the best way for dads to be better? The answer is surprisingly simple.
Each year, the National Center for Fathering holds essay contests where children write about what their fathers mean to them. Recently, they noticed a common theme.
Children wish to spend more time with their dads. This isn’t meant to be a guilt trip – but just a reminder of how important quality time is with our children.
The center offers these ways to be a more devoted dad:
Build time with your kids into your schedule. That includes one-on-one time with each child. Make them routine.
Be intentional about that one-on-one time. Focus on your child during your outings. Turn your cell phone off and limit distractions so that you can give your child your undivided attention.
If you can’t be with your child every day, send them encouraging text messages and emails, and let them know when you’ll see them next.
