About Us

The El Centro de Laredo Farmers Market is a program of Laredo Main Street, a non-profit organization whose primary mission is to build community support, interest, and economic growth for Laredo's historic downtown commercial area and surrounding neighborhoods. The mission of the Market is to encourage, support, and promote the entrepreneurial efforts of local, independent, and  small-scale farmers seeking to sell products directly to the consumer within a 200-mile radius. A strong focus on sustainability, food grown without pesticides, and a commitment to healthy cooking techniques and products with natural/organic ingredients and no preservatives are the goals we strive for as the market develops. With the addition of workshops and added-value home products, the El Centro de Laredo Farmers Market provides a venue to educate the community on the importance of good health as it creates more business opportunities and draws the public into experiencing the culture of South Texas and the scenic and shady Jarvis Plaza. The Market shoppers love to support the community, and they feel better about where their food came from because they get to buy directly.

Laredo Main Street FAQ

How long has our local farmers market been around?
El Centro de Laredo Farmer's Market is started in October 2010 and we are excited to be celebrating our 5th year anniversary this year!

How many vendors and what types?
We have upwards of 25 vendors who range from farmers, chefs, wellness counselors, herbalists to various local producer's.

Why should people support the farmer's market?
Farmers markets are an integral part of the urban/farm linkage and have continued to rise in popularity, mostly due to the growing consumer interest in obtaining fresh products directly from the farm. Farmers markets allow consumers to have access to locally grown, farm fresh produce, enables farmers the opportunity to develop a personal relationship with their customers, and cultivate consumer loyalty with the farmers who grow the produce.

Where/When is the farmers market?
The El Centro de Laredo Farmer's Market is a producer’s only farmers market located at the downtown historical Jarvis Plaza. The market happens every 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

How can I participate as a seller?
The market is comprised of farmers, ranchers, and producers within a 200 mile radius of Laredo. For more information on how to become a part of the farmers you may contact: Stephanie Mendez, Farmers Market Manager at (956) 523-8817

Laredo Main Street works to protect and enhance the quality of life for the community who live, work and visit Laredo's historically and culturally significant downtown commercial and historical area. Recently Laredo Main Street was recognized at a National Main Street City in Texas by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Laredo Main Street was also instrumental in helping the City of Laredo receive its designation as a Preserve America Community, an appointment given by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to communities that protect and celebrate their heritage, use their historic assets for economic development and community revitalization, and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs. The organization strives to facilitate the promotion of downtown businesses through events such as the El Centro de Laredo Farmers Market, Small Business workshops and Conferences, and the annual Jamboozie festival. Laredo Main Street, with help from the City of Laredo, has designated the first Arts and Entertainment District. This area is primed for tremendous growth and investment opportunities. If you are interested in business opportunities within Laredo Main Street or would like to become a member please contact the Program Manager, Pilar Monroy  at (956) 523-8817 or e-mail us contact@laredomainstreet.org.

Remember all streets came from historic downtown but more importantly “all streets lead to historic downtown!”
