Cloth Diapering Moms FAQ
How much does it cost to cloth diaper?
I started out with somewhere between $150-200 invested. I spent more than necessary and it can be done for less than $100.
My water bill has increased about $2 over the last 2 years, some of what can be attributed to washing diapers.
Disposable diapers can cost between $2,000-3,000 for the entire time needed.
How often do I have to buy diapers?
I use one-size diapers. The snaps adjust to fit babies from 8lb-35lb. I never have to buy another diaper again.
How do you wash your diapers?
I compare washing them to washing towels. I wash on the heavy-duty load, with Original Tide. I normally wash on cold, but use hot when the load is extra dirty. I dry all my diapers on regular for a full cycle. The PUL that is on most diapers is heat-rated to withstand that.
I use a laundry booster like Arm&Hammer or Calgon Water Softener because I have hard water. This helps reduce mineral buildup but is not necessary everywhere.
